“DigitalSafeguard” – Towards safer digital spaces for all

Civil society groups in Moldova and Ukraine are increasingly operating in a restrictive digital environment. Activists, journalists, and vulnerable communities face increasing risks, such as doxxing, cyberattacks, surveillance, phishing, and online harassment. These threats, which often occur simultaneously, put immense pressure on individuals, affecting their ability to carry out their vital work and freely express their opinions. This not only undermines human rights online, but also creates a hostile digital environment. What can be done to change this situation?

To address these challenges, ARTICLE 19, Digital Security Lab, the “GENDERDOC-M” Information Center (GDM) and the National Association of ICT Companies of Moldova (ATIC) have joined forces to launch “DigitalSafeguard” – a program designed to promote a safer digital landscape in Ukraine and Moldova, where everyone, including vulnerable groups, can exercise their fundamental rights in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The essence of “DigitalSafeguard” lies in capacity building, adopting a two-pronged approach: strengthening the resilience of digital security providers and improving their ability to provide effective support, as well as equipping civil society with practical tools and strategies to protect themselves against threats digital rights. Participants will benefit from a variety of workshops, face-to-face training, mentoring, emergency assistance and technical support – all delivered by renowned experts in the field of digital rights.

We strongly believe that promoting collaboration between key actors, sharing knowledge and cultivating new essential skills will contribute to creating a stronger and safer digital environment for all.
