Moldova Pride 2025: “Don’t play with 5%” – Press conference before the official opening

The GENDERDOC-M Information Centre took part today in a press conference ahead of the official opening of the 24th Moldova Pride Festival. The organisation’s representatives, Albina Ciuprin and Angelica Frolov, presented this year’s concept, priority themes and key events to the media. The festival will take place in Chișinău from 10 to 15 June 2025.

Albina Ciuprin, coordinator of Pride Park 2025, spoke about the significance of this community event, which will take place on Saturday, 14 June, in the centre of the capital.

“Pride Park is more than a demonstration. It is a space where the LGBTQI+ community can experience what freedom could look like in a society without prejudice. A place created by and for the community, where volunteers work shoulder to shoulder to build a safe, educational and colourful environment.”

This year’s Pride Park theme is “Elections and Civic Engagement”. The event will include a symbolic activity—“absurd elections” for the position of Pride Park 2025 President—designed to raise awareness.

Alongside civic activities, Pride Park participants will be able to explore a wide range of workshops, sporting and artistic activities, free HIV and hepatitis testing, live music and queer performances.

Angelica Frolov, Executive Director of GENDERDOC-M, spoke about the significance of the festival’s overarching theme, “Don’t Mess with the 5%”—a political and social message addressed to society, the authorities and political leaders: “We make up at least 5% of the population—enough to influence the direction of a country. We demand safety, respect and equal rights. The Moldova Pride Festival is not a party. It is a form of survival in the public sphere.”

Angelica Frolov also announced the festival’s opening ceremony, which will take place tomorrow evening at the GENDERDOC-M Centre and include the presentation of awards for civic courage and solidarity, among them the Inimi Implicate (“Committed Hearts”) Award.

Moldova Pride 2025 includes:

• The official opening and awards ceremony (10 June)

• Pride Park—an outdoor community festival (14 June)

• The Solidarity March—a public demonstration in central Chișinău (15 June)
