The man who incited hatred during an electoral meeting with Renato Usatîi, sanctioned for inciting discrimination

The GENDERDOC-M Information Center informs that the man who launched a violent incitement against the LGBTQ+ community during an electoral meeting with Renato Usatîi was sanctioned for a misdemeanor.

The case concerns a video published on September 4, 2025 on the official TikTok page of Renato Usatîi, the leader of the Our Party. In the images, captured during an electoral meeting, a man asks Renato Usatîi the following question: “These LGBT people, what do we do with them, we either annihilate (destroy) them, or kill them”. To this statement, Renato Usatîi reacted by laughing and said: “They’ll open a criminal case against me again”.

The video content had a wide spread in the online environment, accumulating over 10,000 reactions and over 2,400 shares. This level of viralization amplified the seriousness of the message and the risk of normalizing speech that incites hatred and violence against LGBTQ+ people.

In connection with this case, a complaint was filed with the police for incitement to hatred and violence.

By the court’s decision, Mihail Crăciun, the man who uttered this message, was found guilty of committing the contravention provided for in Article 70 paragraph (1) of the Contravention Code, incitement to discrimination, and was fined 2,000 lei.

We consider this decision important, because it sends a clear signal that incitements to hatred and violence against LGBTQ+ people have legal consequences. In a public space where such messages are tolerated, encouraged or treated as jokes, their sanctioning is essential to protect the dignity and safety of the persons concerned.

Incitement to hatred is not an opinion. Calls to destroy or kill people based on sexual orientation cannot be trivialized and must not be tolerated, especially in an electoral context, where such messages can legitimize and amplify social violence.
